A Haute Mess! Dior Couture FW 2011/12

A collective "team" effort with maybe too many members and ideas on that team.

This was probably one of the main problems of the July 4th Dior haute couture show in Paris. Bill Gaytten, Galliano's former assistant and now head creative director must be hiding under a rock now as the acclaimed house receives a backlash of negative criticism for its latest collection.

Zebra print patch work paired with a furry of over fluffed pastel ruffles and mexican feather ponchos and moon shaped hats; not even the house of Balenciaga on ketamine would aspire to use this much color blocking.

As far as the inspiration for this collection goes, that is another mystery in itself.

UPDATE! All about Galliano

John Galliano is now dead. Well, his career with Dior is at least.

The multi billion dollar conglomerate LVMH his officially fired the designer to due the anti-semitic remarks that we all have seen [if not, the video is posted in the previous post :]. Dior his a 0% tolerance for racism and antisemitism and had no choice but to alleviate the poison that would infect the name of Dior if connections with someone with those views were maintained.

John Galliano's personal label of the same name will continue for the time being. His fall/winter 2011 collection was shown in Paris a few days ago and, despite all the controversial affairs surrounding his name right now, the fact still remains that he is an amazingly talented designer. His collections are one of the few that I anticipate and admire every year and this season was no exception. Here's a look at the show for yourself. Parisian glamor at its finest.

Dior's John Galliano Racist Rant

So unless you live under a rock or have been severely tuned in to Milan Fashion Week, you have probably heard about John Galliano's little "situation". In case you haven't, let me fill you in.

Last thursday, at a bar in Paris called la Perle, Galliano was arrested after a woman reported to officers that he made anti-semitic comments to her including calling her a "dirty jew face". But now, we can pretty much put the final nail in his coffin and wrap it in a custom made Dior bow. This thanks to a gentleman who video taped the designer on a separate occasion at the same location going off in what appears to be a drunk/drug infused rant towards a lady of Italian origin.

Galliano has been suspended from Dior until everything is officially clarified. They say that true feelings are unveiled when one is under the influence. If this is true, Galliano is one jew hating, nazi loving GAY. Oh, the irony.

BTW, here's a look a Nicole Kidman and Sharon Stone wearing Christian Dior at the Oscars last night. Beautiful dresses? Yes. Bad timing to wear them? Definitely.

Got Galliano? FW RTW 2010/11

Feathers, fur, fireworks and absolutely FEROCIOUS are all words that can be easily used to describe John Galliano’s FW 2010/11 catwalk show at Paris Fashion Week. Seemingly inspired by nomadic and Icelandic cultures, this latest collection featured a variety of unique aesthetic elements. Chiffon and brocade fabrics were used to create many of the gowns; sheepskin and embossed leather with trimmed yak-fur for the mountain-coats; and silver and feathered accessories for adorning the model's limbs. Probably the most startling accessory on a large number of the models however were the gargantuan turban-hats which were made of fox, Mongolian lamb and wool.

In quintessential Galliano style, the show snowed with crystal like silver and finished with a spectacular firework display.

I just adore Dior! FW 2010/11

Christian Dior, one of my favorite fashion houses of all time premiered their FW 2010/11 Ready to Wear Womenswear collection this week at Paris Fashion Week. Continuing with theme from the SS 2010 Haute Couture show, head designer John Galliano’s inspiration was equestrian based. In an interview with Paris Modes, Galliano described how the famous French painter Eugène Delacroix helped with developing the inspiration of combining the elegance of horse riding with comfort. He also commented on the elements that were used to give the collection a masculine feel such as checks on the bias and lace-like leather. Oh how I ♥ Dior!
