Utter opulence: Ermenegildo Zegna’s US$22,500 men’s suit!!

Zegna AW 2010/11
It’s 2010 and Ermenegildo Zegna is celebrating their 100th year anniversary! For those of you that are unaware, Ermenegildo Zegna is one of the world’s leading Italian fashion houses specializing in luxury menswear. An entirely family owned business now in their 4th generation of proprietorship, the Zegna family has produced suits for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and of course their own label.

As a celebratory gesture to their 100 years of success, this family who host the annual competition to find the world’s finest Merino wool has used the best samples from the competition to create not only the world most expensive suits but also probably the lightest in weight. According to the New York Times, human hair measures on average 100 microns whereas the fleeces used to make these made-to-order suits are only 11.1 microns. Additionally, each piece in this 20 piece collection takes an approximate 18 hours to create and passes through a whooping 330 pairs of hands.

Retailing at US$22,500, is your pocketbook fat enough to afford one of these?
